Welcome to the Navesink River HRC website!

Our 2008 year has contained several great events, from training days, to tests, to a great banquet and summer picnic.  Our August double NAHRA "Hunter" test went well also.  Now it's time for our fall events.  Check the calendar for our training sessions.

Our next NAHRA tests: September 13-14  (double started/hunter/intermediate) -- at ASSUNPINK.

Click HERE for a premium, and/or click HERE for an entry form.  Note that cross entries are not allowed in Started and Intermediate.  If you are not entering, plan to attend and help out.  It's a great way to watch dog work close-up, and to spend time with old or new friends.

Set aside October 5, for our first Super Singles event.  Click here for the entry form.

This event was CANCELLED due to insufficient entries.  Hopefully, there will be one in 2009.

Also, a newly designed website is in progress.  Sorry it isn't up yet, but from what I've seen of Allison's design work, it will definitely be worth it.  Keep checking!

ABOUT NRHRC

Navesink River Hunting Retriever Club was founded in 1985 to promote the training of retrievers in New Jersey. Today we continue with this effort by hosting training sessions and licensed hunt tests as well as club Gun Dog tests through out the year. Our members come from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York, with most of our events being held in the central NJ area.  The dogs trained by club members are just as diverse and while the majority are Labrador Retrievers, we also have Golden Retrievers, Curly Coated Retrievers, Flat Coat Retrievers, Nova Scotia Duck Tollers, Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, and Boykin Spaniels. We welcome people and dogs of all ages and abilities. While some members are also breeders and are working toward obtaining titles on their dogs, others are training for a better trained hunting dog or just a better companion.

We are affiliated with the North American Hunting Retriever Association (NAHRA), an association dedicated to the conservation of game through the use of trained retrievers. There are currently 12 clubs in the North East Region of NAHRA hosting tests throughout the year, as well as several clubs in the Mid Atlantic Region. For more information on the NAHRA program visit  www.nahra-news.org.

We invite you to come to a training session if you are interested in what we do. Check out our calendar of events for information.

A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

WELCOME.

Thank you for visiting the Navesink River Hunting Retriever Club website.

In my time as a member of Navesink I have had the extreme pleasure of seeing some truly amazing accomplishments from our club dog and handler teams.

Debbie and Robin Brennan's     "Misty"

the first Chessie to accumulate 1000 points in NAHRA field tests

Scott and Christine Leonescu's      "Toby"

becoming "Grand Master Hunting Retriever" at the age of only 18 months

Debbie and Colin Smith's     "Saffie"

going from a pup afraid of her own shadow to attaining her "Started Retriever Title" and now running multiple marks and starting to handle.

These are only a few of the amazing things our Club dogs have achieved.  This teamwork shows not only a great dedication by the dogs' handlers but the support of a great club, and Navesink is just that.

Whether you want a great field test dog, a down in the mud nose to the ground hunter, or just a well behaved companion, Navesink can help you get there. Our members have the knowledge and the Club has the equipment to help you work towards your personal goals.

If you would like to pay us a visit, check our calendar of events and come on out to see what we do.  I'm sure there is a date that will fit into your schedule.  For a real treat try to attend our May 12th and 13th test to see some of the best dog and handler teams from the Northeast.

Good training and hope to see you in the field.

Scott Unkel

President
